Contemporary artist Dirty Hans cites Toulouse-Lautrec and Lichtenstein amongst his greatest influences: an unlikely pairing of art greats, the result is Dirty Hans’ own unique and striking aesthetic, by turns gritty and poppy, in artful measures. His work riffs off 1950s pop culture, from music to movies to magazines, updating Pop Art styles with an innovative combination of acrylic and spray-paint on canvas, merged with digital techniques. ‘Fight Dirty’ depicts the iconic Marilyn Monroe, reimagined in the guise of the memorable ‘We Can Do It!’ WWII poster: blue shirt sleeves rolled high to expose tattooed biceps; a cigarette hanging from her rouged lips; curled hair finished with a big, red ribbon; and the stars and stripes waving patriotically in the background.
